The Secretariat: National Endowment for Democracy

The World Movement’s steering committee designated the National Endowment for Democracy as the network’s secretariat to serve the World Movement’s mission, including the promotion of online networking and the sponsorship of biannual assemblies.

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private, nonprofit foundation based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. Each year, NED supports more than 1,000 projects of non-governmental groups abroad working for democratic goals in more than 90 countries.

The International Forum for Democratic Studies, NED’s research arm, and its Democracy Resource Center play a lead role in the work of the secretariat to the World Movement. Together, they provide materials and services such as maintenance of the World Movement Web site and online social networks.
