The World Movement Participants Database has been created to enable participants to contact each other for purposes of collaboration and to exchange information about their work.

What are you searching for?
The data in the Participants Database addresses two types of information, Participant Identification and Areas of Work. Also provided below is a set of instructions on Using the Database.

Participant Identification:
    Participating Organization
    Refers to the group participating in the World Movement for Democracy. Organizations include, but are not limited to, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), research centers, inter-governmental organizations, and political parties.

    Participating Individual
    Refers to an individual in a World Movement participating organization who has taken part in various World Movement activities, such as assemblies, regional meetings, and networks.

    Location (Country/Region)
    The Country or Region in which a participating organization is physically located.

    Assemblies Attended
    Refers to the assemblies that participants have attended. The World Movement has held three Assemblies to date, the Inaugural Assembly in 1999 in New Delhi, India, the Second Assembly in 2000 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the third in 2004 in Durban, South Africa.

    Country Focus
    Refers to the country on which the participating organization is primarily working.

    Regional Focus
    Refers to the region on which a participating organization is primarily working. Regions include:

    • Central/Eastern Europe and Eurasia
    • Canada and the United States
    • Global
    • Latin America and the Caribbean
    • Middle East and North Africa
    • South, East, and Pacific Asia
    • Western Europe


    Type of Activity
    Types of activities conducted by participating organizations.

    Publications
    Examples of publications that a participating organization has produced. Please note that this field does not include all of an organization's publications. To obtain copies of these publications, please contact the specific organization.

Using the Database:
    Searching:
    1. Type the information you want to search for or click the Browse button. If you fill in more than one box, the search will try to find everything you had entered. Example: Find records that contain the words "Joe Smith" AND a Regional Focus on "Africa."
    2. Click Submit Query.
    3. Results that meet your criteria are displayed as a "Participants Short" display report.
    4. To see the full report pick a form from the droplist.

    Tips and Tricks:
    • Use an asterisk (*) to broaden your search to include all word endings.
    • Use an ampersand (&) between words if you want each word to be present (AND). Example: to find groups working in both Cuba and China enter "Cuba & China."
    • Use a slash (/) to indicate that either word may be present (OR) Example: to find those working in Nigeria or China enter "Nigeria /China."

    Using a Droplist:
    If a search form includes a droplist indicated by Droplist Arrow next to a box, you can open the list and select one item for which to search. To clear the box, open the list again and select the blank line at the very top of the list.
