Welcome to the final report on the Third Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy, which took place at the International Convention Center on February 1-4, 2004, in Durban, South Africa.

The report was prepared by the Secretariat of the World Movement at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). It is based on the proceedings of the Assembly and the various workshop reports.

This online report is an enhanced version of the printed report and includes many of the recommendations and proposed initiatives that resulted from nearly 60 workshops; video clips and full text from the keynote addresses delivered by Zainab Bangura (Sierra Leone), Lodi Gyari (Tibet), and Ivan Krastev (Bulgaria); summaries of the Democracy Courage Tributes presented at the John B. Hurford Memorial Dinner; a list of the nearly 600 participants who attended; and other material.
