Addressing the Challenges for Paving the Future to Regional Confidence Building - Southeastern Europe
Contact: Institute for Democracy and Mediation (Albania)- shroni@sanx.net; and Forum for Ethnic Relations (Serbia and Montengro)-ferbgd@ EUnet.yu
"Addressing the Challenges for Paving the Future to Regional Confidence Building" is implemented jointly by the Institute for Democracy and Mediation in Tirana, Albania, and the Forum for Ethnic Relations in Belgrade, Serbia, with the cooperation of other NGOs in the region. Its main aim is to enhance mutual understanding and sharing of common values and ideas among young political and civic leaders of the targeted area, thus contributing to the establishment of a network of leaders that would address regional challenges. The project includes three roundtable discussions with the first one in Tirana followed by similar roundtables in Peja, Kosovo, and Belgrade. In each of the roundtables, the young leaders from the region discuss ways to promote intercultural dialogue, tolerance, and democratic culture; how to fight crime, illegal trafficking; and how to engage in joint initiatives aiming at the Euro-Atlantic integration of the region. It is expected that the participants in the round table will continue the discussions between each other, and within their own society, and will facilitate the creation of a region network of youth.

The Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) is an incubator of global partnerships among youth organizations. It is a collaboration of youth organizations in almost 200 countries working to maximize the impact of young people working to make a difference in society. GYAN's goals are to facilitate youth participation and intergenerational partnership in global decision-making; to support collaboration among diverse youth organizations; and to provide tools, resources, and recognition for positive youth action. It provides young people with opportunities to add their voices to the Global Youth Agenda, to help build the Youth Agenda for their own countries, to learn how to be an official youth delegate to the United Nations, to connect to the Nation Youth Councils in their countries, to create local youth councils, and to debate issues concerning youth with other young activists online. GYAN programs include such initiatives as the Global Youth Service Day, on which millions of young people around the world carry out thousands of community improvement projects, and a television show that allows young people from different countries to communicate life through video technology. GYAN recognizes and awards positive youth actions, particularly youth projects taking a new approach to problem solving in communities around the world. GYAN has also merged its online community with TakingITGlobal.org becoming the most active web site on the Internet for young social leaders, providing information on issues and opportunities to take actions and get involved locally, nationally, and globally. Membership to TakingITGlobal is free of charge, and is available to organizations and individuals.
