The following is a short list of organizations working on labor rights grouped by region. Please send us information on work your organization is doing on labor rights so we can consider adding it to the list of organizations. Global: The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (ACILS) is an organization that helps labor movements around the world through technical and financial support. ACILS works with community groups and unions to promote democracy and labor rights. www.Solidaritycenter.org Global unions is a collection of area specific networks of unions. Global Unions works to promote labor rights through lobbying campaigns. www.global-unions.org The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) is a confederation of national unions that are autonomous and democratic. The ICFTU advocates for workers' rights and conducts a large comparative research study on the state of workers in 115 different nations. www.icftu.org The International Labor Organization (ILO) is the United Nation's agency for promoting labor rights. The ILO conducts research on labor rights and provides technical expertise to labor movements. www.ilo.org The International Labor Rights Fund (ILRF) is a United States-based organization that conducts research and lobbying campaigns on behalf of labor movements. The ILRF Web site also contains an extensive lists of partners and related groups. www.laborrights.org Africa: The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is an influential labor organization that was instrumental in the democracy movement in South Africa. COSATU promotes labor rights and democracy throughout Africa. www.cosatu.org.za The Ghana Trade Union Congress (GTUC) is an umbrella organization that advocates for labor rights and democracy in Ghana. tuc@ighmail.com The Union Nationale des Travailleurs du Congo (UNTC) is the largest and most representative trade union in the Congo. UNTC works with many different elements in civil society to promote labor rights. www.untc.org (in French) The Worker is the magazine of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, which is devoted to publicizing issues related to labor rights. www.africaonline.co.zw/theworker/index.html Asia: The China Labor Watch is a Chinese group based in the United States that researches and publicizes exploitation of labor. www.chinalaborwatch.org The Federal Trade Union of Burma (FTUB) is an underground labor union in Burma with an office in the United States. FTUB promotes labor rights in Burma through research and lobbying campaigns. www.tradeunions-burma.org The Malaysia Trade Union Congress (MTUC) is the only Malaysian national labor congress. MTUC promotes labor rights and democracy through education, lobbying, and research. www.mtuc.org.my The Thai Labor Campaign (TLG) is an NGO that promotes labor rights and awareness of labor issues in Thailand. www.thailabour.org Central and Eastern Europe: The Podkrepa Confederation of Labor is an organization that educates laborers and trade unionists in Bulgaria. www.podkrepa.com/eng The See Youth Network is a South Eastern European regional network of youth NGOs and volunteer organizations that promote labor rights. www.seeyouth.info/eng/engine.php UGS Nezavisnost is a labor organization in Serbia that educates workers about democracy and reform. www.nezavisnost.org.yu/structure.htm Top of page Latin America: The Ecumenical Program on Central America and the Caribbean (EPICA) is a regional organization that promotes labor and human rights. www.eipca.org/about/index.htm Federation Latinamericana de Trabajadores de la Educacion y la Cultura (FLATEC) is a federation of educators workers groups in Latin America. The Web site includes a comprehensive list of links to workers organizations in Latin America. www.flatec.org The Mexico Solidarity Network (MSN) is a coalition of 80 NGOs that works to promote labor rights. www.mexicosolidarity.org The United States Labor Education in the Americas Project (USLEAP) is an American based organization that advocates for labor rights in Central America, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Mexico. www.usleap.org Top of page Middle East: The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TURK-IS) is an umbrella organization that promotes labor rights in Turkey. Contact: turkis@turkis.org.tr The Iran Teachers' Association is a professional organization in exile that publishes a journal that provides a forum for discussion on politics and democracy. www.mehregan.org (the website for the organization is currently down) The Iraqi Federation of Workers Trade Unions (IFTU) is an organization that works to promote labor rights in Iraq. www.iraqitradeunions.org/en/ New Independent States: The Kyrgyzstan Trade Union Federation (KTUF) represents half the work force in Kyrgystan.
