Alianza Cívica - Mexico

Civic Alliance's goal is to contribute to the democratic transition in Mexico and to encourage citizen participation in public affairs. The Alliance comprises over 71 civic groups in all 32 states of Mexico. The Alliance provides materials and training to local groups to allow them to monitor pre-electoral conditions and observe the voting process on election day. It also conducts a program to monitor local government performance in three to six states and supports greater collaboration between local communities and their governments.

Citizens Organized to Monitor Elections (GONG) - Croatia

Citizens Organized to Monitor Elections (GONG) is committed to increasing the transparency of the electoral process in Croatia. GONG recruited and trained 4,000 volunteers to monitor the country's local elections and to conduct parallel vote tabulation for the May 2001 local elections. The program increased citizens' confidence and participation in the election process and helped ensure that the local elections were as free, fair, and transparent as possible.

Citizens Action oversees a network of citizen organizations based in cities in central Slovakia. It implements a program informing and mobilizing voters for Slovakia's November 2002 local elections. It administers a series of candidate fora carried out in central Slovakia. The program specifically includes two planning meetings, two training workshops, four meetings with local government officials, and twelve candidate fora, including six for parliamentary and six for local elections.

International Republican Institute - China

The International Republic Institute (IRI) has implemented an electoral reform program in China designed to help strengthen elections, institutionalize them at the local level, and improve accountability, transparency, and good governance. To this end, IRI sponsored a training seminar aimed at building indigenous election monitoring capacity and a training seminar to encourage women's participation in local electoral politics. Through the World and China Institute, IRI helped in developing a platform for expanding elections to urban communities, and in rural China, from villages to the township level.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) - Cambodia

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) provides technical assistance to Cambodian NGOs and other reformers to educate commune activists and other interested citizens relating to the new commune administration and election laws. NDI also advises NGOs on their ongoing advocacy efforts to improve local government and election laws and to help reactivate the networks of the Cambodian election monitoring organizations as they begin to improve their election monitoring skills in preparation for local elections.

Presov Civic Forum (PCF) - Slovakia

The Presov Civic Forum (PCF) is composed of over fifty local NGOs and activists. The PCF informs citizens about reform issues and encourages them to take part in eastern Slovakia's democratic transition. The PCF educates citizens about the regional and local government reforms, mobilizes citizens to take part in regional elections, and trains local activists to carry out this program. Recently, PCF has organized pre-election candidate and discussion fora, produced voter mobilization leaflets, trained 100 rural activists, and produced a training manual
