Population pyramids showing the age structure for countries can be generated, as well as a ranking of countries by total population for any year from 1950 to 2050. Historical estimates of world population from 10,000 B.C. to 1950 A.D. are also provided. |

Began as a project of the School of Information and Library Studies at the University of Michigan in 1995, IPL is a good starting point to explore any subject. It offers access to electronic resources under several collections (reference, maganizes and serials, newspapers, online texts, "especially for librarians," web searching, exhibits, teen, and youth), offering helpful annotations to the selected sites. |

The site distinguishes between complex emergencies (or man-made disasters) and natural disasters, however, if unfamiliar with the jargon, access is available by country. Two valuable features are reports about the disasters from humanitarian agencies and news sources, and unique maps useful to such agencies. |
